Dominican Community in Florida Supports Leonel Fernández’s Book Launch
May 1, 2017President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, launched his book collection “Democracy, Modernity and Progress,” which contains a compilation of speeches given during his three presidential terms, on Saturday night in Doral, Florida, at the Grand Doral Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Doral.
The agenda included a conversation led by former Dominican vice president Rafael Alburquerque and Namphy Rodríguez, well-known journalist and lawyer from the Caribbean country, who directed comments and questions at former Dominican president Fernández about the contents of the book, the topics considered, his influence in the
speeches and other inquiries about his three terms of governance.
The event, organized by GFDD/Funglode was attended by academics, students, writers, businesspeople, representatives from the Dominican community in Florida and activists from the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD, an entity which Fernández is president of).
Fernández governed the Dominican Republic on three occasions (1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012), through democratic
elections, which were free of controversy, setting a precedent in that regard.
