Book Presentation Analyzing Mental Health Perspectives in the Dominican Republic Convened at FUNGLODE

April 15, 2013

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and La Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), are to host a book presentation entitled “Mental Health Perspectives: a detailed analysis of services and treatments in Monte Plate and national institutions specializing in mental health“.

The impetus behind the publishing of the book, was the in depth investigation conducted by GFDD and
FUNGLODE’s research fellow, Yosmayra Reyes, presented at the UN in NY in April 2011.

Columbia University alumni, Ms. Reyes, who will present the book on April 16 at 7pm in FUNGLODE’s auditorium, joined the Fellows Program in the summer of 2010, as a researcher in the area of mental health care. Her findings assess the implementation and awareness of national legislature related to mental health. Her study identifies existing challenges within the field
of mental health, with a focus on early detection at the primary care level.

In addition to evaluating the impact of health care policy on mental health services nationally, Ms. Reyes’ research also looks specifically at how mental health assessment is integrated within primary care in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic.

Ms. Reyes’ investigation was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Alberto Fiallo Billini, Fellows Program Advisor
and Advisor on Public Health to President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández.

The book forms part of our "RESEARCH AND IDEAS" collection. The collection inspired by GFDD and FUNGLODE, written by experts, based on intensive research on the field that features recommendations for maximizing social benefits and aims to become a resourceful tool for further dialogues on these subjects.
