InteRDom Reaches Out to Florida Universities

During the week of April 16th InteRDom representatives will travel to Miami, Florida to meet students, faculty and administrators at three top universities in order to form stronger bonds with the Latino/a student communities and to learn about and participate in the important research that is being done on the region.

InteRDom team members will be on the campus of Miami Dade College on Monday, April 16th to meet with representatives of the
international education and career services offices, as well as to discuss the research of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Initiatives.  This visit will be an extension of the relationship that InteRDom’s parent institution Global Foundation for Democracy and Development already has with the college, where it recently hosted a Dominican Get-Together
for the Dominican and Latino student body and community.

On Tuesday, April 17th and Wednesday, April 18th, InteRDom will give information sessions on the programs available for students and researchers in the Dominican Republic on the campuses of Florida International University and the University of Miami, respectively.   Representatives of the program will also meet with faculty and staff of the career centers, International Education Offices

Finally on Thursday, April 19th, InteRDom will be present at the South Florida Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Student
Conference, where it will give a presentation for participants on the Fellows Program, and explain how the program can contribute to the advancement of the important research being done in the region.  Representatives will also be present in all of the sessions, where graduate students will present their research in diverse fields revolving around the theme “Selfhood, Statehood and Interstate Cooperation Across
the Americas.”

South Florida is a very important region for the InteRDom program because of the size of the Dominican and Latino communities there.  It serves as a gateway to the Caribbean, and is at the heart of the research that is currently being conducted on topics related to the rapid development and changing social and economic landscapes of the region.  This trip will serve to fortify relations with important universities and
research centers in order to better serve students and participate in the research being conducted in the Dominican Republic.

The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international
students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
