GFDD will Present Conference “The Dominican Republic 50 Years After Trujillo,” with Dr. Howard Wiarda

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is pleased to present the conference “The Dominican Republic 50 Years After Trujillo,” with Dr. Howard Wiarda, Dean Rusk Professor of International Relations at the University of Georgia, Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center. The event, in partnership with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in
Washington, DC, will take place Monday, February 6 at 7:00 pm at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Dr. Wiarda is a distinguished expert in contemporary Latin American history, with a specialization in political systems and fragile democracies in the twentieth century.

Dr. Wiarda’s keynote address will provide an analysis of the Dominican Republic’s democratic transition
towards a participatory democracy, from the final years of the Trujillo dictatorship until the present.
