InteRDom Organizes Dialogue on Public Health Services in the Dominican Republic

As part of an agenda of activities elaborated by InteRDom Internships in the Dominican Republic to complement the service activities of a group of 15 nursing and pre-medical students from the University of Rhode Island, the program is pleased to announce an open dialogue titled “Initiatives and Programs that Promote Access to Public Health in the Dominican Republic,” which will take place on Friday, January 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the headquarters of
Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in Santo Domingo.

The program will begin with presentations by renowned national and international experts in the area of public health and medicine and conclude with a question and answer session that will generate a dialogue between participants and presenters.  The activity is free and open to anyone from the public interested
in learning about access to public health programs in the Dominican Republic and the region.

The following experts will be presenting during part one of the program: Dr. Alberto Fiallo, Director of the Center for Public Health Studies of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD); Dr. Marcos Nuñez, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Science at the Iberoamerican University
(UNIBE) and President of the Dominican Association of Medicine Schools Faculties (ADOFEM); Ivelisse Sánchez, President of the Dominican Association of Nursing (ADEG); and a representative of the Agency for International Development (USAID).

Other collaborators who will be present for the dialogue include: Alicia Curtin, Associate Professor at University of Rhode Island School of Nursing; Lucero Arboleda de Roa, Coordinator of the Virtual Health Library
Program at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC); Juana Méndez, Nursing Faculty Director, Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD); Mirtha Tejada, National Director of Nursing Services at the Dominican Institute of Social Security (IDSS); and Silvia Tejeda, Director of the National Bureau of Nurses.

(GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn
academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
