GFDD and FUNGLODE Introduce the New Educational Portal of the Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Television (TEIb) Program

November 11, 2011

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), (Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), the Ibero-American Association of Educational Television (ATEI), and the Ministry of Education (MINERD) presented the new portal of the Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Television (TEIb ), at FUNGLODE headquarters in Santo Domingo.

The event began with welcoming
remarks from the Director of the GFDD New York office, Yamile Eusebio. Also present was the secretary general of the TEIb program, Alberto Garcia Ferrer, and William Ortiz, representing MINERD.

In his remarks, Alberto Garcia Ferrer explained that the new Web site has the following sections: windows for fostering creativity in young people, live broadcasting of seminars or conferences, spaces for public education, access to specialized training, dissemination of Ibero-
American audiovisual productions, a virtual video library, and directories, among other useful tools.

The purpose of the meeting was to inform the Dominican educational and cultural community of the new virtual platform that ATEI has implemented, in which multiple contents may be accessed in video format. Currently this new tool has 86 channels incorporated
in 21 large containers, such as the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI for its acronym in Spanish), the Latin American Network of Educational Portals (RELPE for its acronym in Spanish), Virtual Educa, the Cervantes Institute, and others.

TEIb is a cooperation program of the Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government. It was created at the Second Ibero-American Summit (Madrid, 1992), as an educational, cultural and
scientific communications network, for the co-production and exchange of audiovisual content within the framework of the Ibero-American cooperation.

The overall objective of this initiative is to promote cooperation for development, the Ibero-American cultural identity and diversity, through a multilateral project in the field of educational, cultural and scientific communication, which encourages citizen’s active participation.
