InteRDom to be Represented at CIEE Annual Conference in New Orleans

Representatives from the InteRDom Internship program will forge new connections with an important leader in the study abroad industry the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), attending for the first time their 2011 Annual Conference from November 16-19 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  

The theme of the conference, “Redefining Student Learning Abroad: new directions and opportunities,” will provide participants
with strategies on how to manage the current shift in international education paradigms from teachers and content to student-centered teaching, learning processes and outcomes and assessment of learning.  These are topics that have been very important to InteRDom in the development of new programs and the establishment of new tools to provide better structures to facilitate learning, research and
professional production.

“InteRDom’s participation in this conference will be important in order to gather new ideas on how to make our program in the Dominican Republic more accessible to both traditional and non-traditional students,” said Alicia Alonzo, InteRDom Program Coordinator.  “The InteRDom experience is very unique and authentically Caribbean, and we are looking forward to learning new strategies on how to
market it from successful providers such as CIEE.”

Through this conference, InteRDom representatives will be afforded the opportunity to network with other study abroad professionals, both on–site directors and university program operators, to explore partnerships with other institutions, consortia, and providers, and to help redefine this new reality while embracing a
collaborative, outcomes-based approach to study abroad.

InteRDom representatives also will attend presentations, panel discussions and learning sessions on a range of topics from study abroad financing to social justice in international education to special programming for graduate students.
The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and FUNGLODE is the premier internship, research and
academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
