Photo exhibit, New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, opens a window into the soul of the Dominican Republic in Santiago, Chile

October 26, 2011

Photo exhibit "New Perspectives: Dominican Republic" in Chile, produced by GFDD in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Embassy in Chile, started its journey in South America with a display at the prestigious art gallery Jorge Carroza in Santiago, Chile.

A group of Chilean artists, among which, were renowned
film and TV director Silvio Caiozzi, photographer Juan Vargas, plastic artist Macarena Sanchez, and graphic designer Mauricio Vicco. These intellectuals discussed the art of photography with photo exhibit photographer, Anne Casale, and its capacity as a powerful instrument of communication. New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, was highlighted as an introduction to the lesser-known aspects of the country; a country full of riches and pleasant surprises waiting to be discovered by Dominicans
and world visitors.

Fernanda Meza, director of the Gallery, opened discussion to an audience that filled the room to capacity; proving once again, the power of art can bring about the gathering of individuals with like interests in a shared passion.

Asuncion Sanz, director of the Washington office of GFDD, started the
evening with an introduction about the origins of the photo exhibit and the book, which was then followed by welcome remarks by Ambassador Pablo Mariñez, and ended with a few words from Magdalena Carroza.

Gallery Jorge Carroza is a very prestigious institution in Santiago Chile, that houses exquisite collections of Chilean art as well as the restoration center, CREA, dedicated to the recovery of antiques, works of art, and historic buildings.

This event is part of GFDD’s photo exhibit showing a select collection of photos that are contained in the book, which is displayed at Plaza de la Constitucion in Santiago until November 15. This exhibit is the first in a series to open in other venues of Chile and other countries in the area.

The photo exhibit "New Perspectives: Dominican Republic" was conceived by the book of the same title. The purpose of the exhibit is to
present the Dominican Republic in a new light, introducing the beauty of the Dominican landscapes as it is captured from the air. The exhibits have been successfully presented in different places around the world, such as the Dominican Republic, New York, Washington, DC, Rhode Island, and Barcelona.
