August 7, 2011
Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, will conduct the “Summer Workshops for Educators, 2011” on August 8, 9 and 10. This initiative seeks to bring together the experiences of New York City teachers and those of their colleagues in the Dominican Republic, so they can showcase the best practices learned in their schools.
This is the third year this training has
taken place, and for the first time, it will do so in three different cities in the Dominican Republic: Santiago, Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macorís. In total, four teachers will be visiting the country from different schools in New York City. They will focus on subjects related to classroom motivation, new methods of teaching mathematics, the use of evaluation instruments and keys to conflict resolution.
The visiting teachers, Leyti de los Santos, Jose
alfonseca, Adrian Bordoni, and Milagros Hinojosa have over ten years of teaching experience, which ensures that this exchange will result in high level discussions that will ultimately benefit participating Dominican teachers, as well as the visiting educators.
The objectives of the workshop are to promote, by means of this exchange, an enhancing academic experience, to become acquainted with new teaching experiences of teachers abroad which will allow a comparison and
discussion of the best practices, to verify differences that may exist between the educational systems of the Dominican Republic and New York City and to drive a healthy exchange between teachers so that it continues beyond the workshops.
