GFDD Will Spotlight InteRDom and Fellows Program during Global Showcase on International Education in Washington DC
June 20, 2011
On Thursday, June 23, 2011, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will be one of the many educational institutions featured during the 2011 Global Showcase on International Education, sponsored by the NAFSA Embassy Dialogue Committee on Education (EDC) and the US Department of State’s Education USA Program. The event will take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.
The goal of the exhibition is to promote information sharing amongst and the diplomatic community institutions of higher learning, including study abroad offices and international student service offices.
GFDD is delighted to be presenting both InteRDom and the Fellows Program during this international forum. Established in 2005, InteRDom is now the leading academic and professional exchange program in the Dominican Republic, offering internship and research
opportunities to undergraduate, graduate and gap-year students in a diversity of fields. To date, InteRDom has worked with approximately 100 students from 36 universities and has built a database of over 500 affiliated national and international public and private institutions and multilateral organizations.
The Fellows Program, launched in 2009, offers M.S., M.A. and Ph.D. candidates the opportunity to generate scholarship on issues related to sustainable development in
the Dominican Republic and to present their findings before the UN community. Through the Fellows Program, GFDD seeks to: establish critical links with universities, professors and graduate students; generate and disseminate research on topics related to social and economic development within the context of the Dominican Republic; create a community of scholars that will contribute to the expansion of academic research related to issues pertaining to social and economic development, the
environment and global governance; present the perspectives of GFDD before the commissions and committees of the United Nations; and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth, academic exchange and cross-cultural understanding.
The forum offers a unique opportunity to network with over 300 universities as well as with diplomats from across the globe.
