“Educators must be the leaders in the knowledge economy”

Mr. Mite Nishio, Orange Lab representative in the Dominican Republic, stressed the importance of mobile education in the XXI century and said that, given the technological advances already
achieved, the role that educators must fulfill in this day and age is to keep abreast of the latest trends and make the most of them in the classroom.
He pointed out that years ago education by cell phone was considered impossible, but nowadays it is a reality due to the rise worldwide of the Smartphones. He affirmed that due to this massification, people are always connected to the Internet and exchange information with other users all the time.

Nishio maintained that mobile education has significantly changed distance education since it has embraced concepts such as the Web 2.0, and is capable of supporting new learning trends, regardless of where a person is.
"This will not stop here, it will keep moving forward,” he said, “educators’ way of thinking should include becoming part of networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube and ask themselves how to make the most of
the cell phones everybody have". "Teachers cannot be left behind, they must be part of these technological tools as they must be the main leaders in the knowledge economy," he added.
By delivering the keynote address "Using mobile applications in education," the expert said that because of these facts, it is
important to continue creating mobile applications related to education in order to support students learning.
Mite Nishio also explained that, with applications such as Orange Campos, higher education students not only use their phones to take their classes, but they also have access to all the services and information offered by the university.
