GFDD, FUNGLODE and GMAI Invited You to Attend the Theatrical Performance Juan and John

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and their Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) invited you to attend the theatrical performance Juan and John, February 6, at 7:00 pm at Plaza Cultural Mauricio Báez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The play was written by Roger
Guenveur Smith, and will feature performance by the actor, playwright and director. The production will include sound and video design by Marc Anthony Thompson.

The story of the play is inspired by the friendship between baseball legends Juan Marichal and John Roseboro. The play was first presented at the Public Theater in New York City.

Roger Guenveur Smith has written for both theater and film and has starred and stage performances and has acted in
numerous films and television programs. He wrote the Obie Award winning play A Huey P. Newton Story (1995), in which he also performs. The play was later adapted to a film directed by Spike Lee. He has acted in a number of films including: American Gangster (2007),The Bus (1996), Panther (1995), Tales from the
Hood
(1995), Poetic Justice (1993), Malcolm X (1992), Deep Cover (1992), King of New York (1990), Do the Right Thing (1089),and School Daze (1988). Guenveur Smith has also written and acted in a number of stage productions including: Christopher Columbus 1992 (1992), and Inside the Creole Mafia (1991). The actor’s television appearances include: “Kings”, “Third Watch”, “The Guardian”, “New York Undercover”, “A Different World”, “Cosmic Slop”, “Murphy Brown”, and “Fallen Angels”.

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) is dedicated to providing up-and-coming professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry
that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization of the nation.
