GMAI Will Offer Acting Workshop “Improvisation with Roger Guenveur Smith”

From January 12-14, 2010, the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will present a workshop on acting with Obie Award winning writer, actor and director, Roger Guenveur Smith. The workshop is directed towards emerging actors interested in breaking into the world of theater, television and film. Instruction will focus on improvisation, with
particular focus on coordination of voice and movement.

About Roger Guenveur Smith
Roger Guenveur Smith has written for both theater and film and has starred and stage performances and has acted in numerous films and television programs. He wrote the Obie Award winning play A Huey P. Newton Story (1995), in which he also performs. The play was later adapted to a film directed by Spike Lee. He has acted in a number of films
including: American Gangster (2007),The Bus (1996), Panther (1995), Tales from the Hood (1995), Poetic Justice (1993), Malcolm X (1992), Deep Cover (1992), King of New York (1990), Do the Right Thing (1089),and School Daze (1988). Guenveur Smith has also written and acted in a number of stage productions including: Christopher Columbus 1992 (1992), and Inside the Creole Mafia (1991). The actor’s television appearances include: “Kings”, “Third Watch”, “The Guardian”, “New York Undercover”, “A Different
World”, “Cosmic Slop”, “Murphy Brown”, and “Fallen Angels”.
