Nearly thirty feature-length fiction and documentary films, many of them premieres, have been confirmed to be screened during the third edition of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF), which will be held November 18-22, 2009, in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata and Nagua.

This special annual event, which shows the best and most current award winning films, has blossomed on the international film circuit since its inception in 2006, yet
remains faithful to its original mission to bring the foremost in world film to the Dominican Republic under its theme “Global Issues, Personal Stories”.

Looking at this year’s fascinating film line up, it is easy to see that the spirit of the Festival still thrives. Festival staff dedicates precious time gathering film material and stories from other prestigious festivals, helping to shape its exclusive program.

DRGFF, an initiative of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), bring to Dominican soil films from varied geographic locales such as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Spain, United  States, Uruguay and Venezuela, thus allowing the festival to display such rich cultures to local audiences. Concurrently, the
Festival provides learning opportunities, professional training and networking for the general public and film industry professionals.

Natasha Despotovic, DRGFF General Director, leads the international and multidisciplinary team. Ms. Despotovic asserts that; "although there are many film festivals of varying importance going on at any given moment worldwide, the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is unique in that it shows films
simultaneously in several different cities around the country, and that it is the only festival that brings films to auditoriums of public universities. It is really extraordinary in its mission to promote the art of film as a medium to encourage better understanding in the world and to raise consciousness about current global issues." In addition to being organized by non-profit organizations, the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is distinguished for its
role in promoting the Dominican Republic as an excellent location to make and produce films, thus contributing to the country’s economic growth and competitiveness.

As with previous editions, the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival program of events will rely heavily upon the participation of skilled volunteers. Register for this rewarding opportunity, plus the latest event information via the Festival’s webpage. www.drgff.org
