E-Learning: An Opportunity to Improve New Educational Services
March 6, 2009
E-learning is a tool to facilitate the incorporation of new technologies into the learning process. It is also a tool in the process of continuing or permanent education and a way of life for students. This is the way Agustí Ten Pujol, Director of Institutional Relations at the University of Barcelona, Spain, described e-learning at the IV Virtual Educa Caribe 2009 Summit in his speech “Continuing Education and E-learning.” The summit was held
at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
The purpose of e-learning is to facilitate the incorporation of new technologies that can be applied as support tools to create virtual atmospheres of teaching and learning. At the same time, the technology can be applied in a combination of face-to-face classes and virtual classes.
During his speech, Ten Pujol argued that society needs a new way of thinking about education and training. He believes
that introducing technology services and changing the information processes in the most efficient way to improve the quality of educational services offered to students.
