GFDD and FUNGLODE Announce the Winners of the 2008 GFDD/FUNGLODE Awards

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) held a press meeting Wednesday, December 17 to announce the winners of the 2008 GFDD/FUNGLODE Awards in the categories of: Photography, Short Film, Documentary Film, Novel, Short Story, Poetry, Essay and Journalism. Present at the event were many members of the juries and Secretary of Culture, José Rafael Lantigua. GFDD and FUNGLODE Educational
Projects Coordinator, Yamile Eusebio, revealed the recipients of the awards before Lawyer and Notary, Hildegarde Suárez. The press meeting was moderated by FUNGLODE Director of Communications, Iban Campo.
A total of 446 submissions were received:
- 230 — Short Story
- 109 – Poetry
- 28 – Journalism
- 22 — Essay
- 21 –
Photography - 18 — Short Film
- 13 – Novel
- 5 – Documentary Film
The prize winners received monetary gifts ranging from RD $50,000.00 to RD $100,000.00, according to category. The distribution of the awards will take place during a ceremony in January at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo.
Rafael Herrera Award for Journalism:
