GMAI Offers Course on Cinematographic Appreciation and Audience Formation

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, presented the course, Cinematograhic Appreciation and Audience Formation, July 21-26, 2008, at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During the workshop, students analyzed film materials through the application of language tools
and film grammar. Key topics covered in this workshop included: the relationship between argument, narration and history; cinematographic time; framing and nomenclature; camera movements and angles; diverse aspects of cinematographic narration; film photography and staging.
 
Course instruction was provided by Carlos Mario Pineda Echevarría, psychologist and specialist
in cultural management at Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia. Pineda teaches classes in cinematographic appreciation and Latin American film at various Colombian universities.
 
Over forty individuals participated in the workshop.
 
GMAI is dedicated to providing up-and-coming professionals in the television and film industry with comprehensive instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production, as part of its overall mission to expand the multimedia industry of the Dominican Republic. The Institute seeks to play a key role in the development of a highly qualified Dominican audiovisual industry that significantly contributes to the economic development, competitiveness and modernization
of the nation.
 
GMAI regularly offers introductory, intermediate and advanced courses. It also organizes events that promote greater understanding of the media arts, such as conferences, screenings and interviews with filmmakers.
