GFDD, FUNGLODE and Virtual Educa Caribbean Participate in Virtual Educa 2008 in Spain

July 11, 2008
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Virtual Educa Caribbean will be participating in Virtual Educa 2008, July 14-18, in Zaragoza, Spain.

Virtual Educa, an initiative affiliated with the Cumbre Iberoamericana de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno (Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government), is a forum that brings together
experts in the areas of education and technological innovation to devise projects that relate to training and facilitating access to knowledge. A principal objective of the forum is to foster synergies between educational institutions and entities within the public and private sectors, in order to advance educational development and cooperation.

In addition to participating in the diverse encounters and seminars that will be
celebrated during Virtual Educa 2008, GFDD, FUNGLODE and Virtual Educa Caribe will have a stand, which they will use to announce and promote Virtual Educa 2010, which will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Moreover, on July 17, 2008, GFDD, FUNGLODE and VEC, in coordination with the International Water and Environment Center (CIAMA) and the Government of Aragón’s Environment Office, will present the
“Latin American Forum on Water and Environment.” The event will form part of the Zaragoza 2008 Water Expo., and will bring together experts to analyze the present state of water and the environment in Latin America; examine new developments within the fields of education, training and technological innovation; and devise a plan for the establishment an institute that will address the main challenges facing water resource protection and enhancement throughout Latin
America.

Since President Leonel Fernández announced that the 2010 edition of the forum would take place in the Dominican Republic during the VIII Encounter of Virtual Educa in São José dos Campos, Brazil in June 2007, members of the Virtual Educa Caribe team have been preparing for the Dominican Republic to host the Ibero-American conference, dedicated to uniting leaders in technology, education and
training, with the objective of devising new strategies and implementing proposed solutions.

Virtual Educa Caribe, headquartered in the Dominican Republic, was launched in Santo Domingo during the Inter-American Forum on New Technologies, which took place April 24-25, 2006. The project seeks to unite representatives from the public and private sectors, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations to ensure that
innovation, training and social corporate responsibility form an integral part of sustainable development agendas.

Last March, GFDD, FUNGLODE and VEC, in collaboration with important educational, civil society and corporate entities, organized Virtual Educa Caribe 2008 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During this international encounter, public and private sector representatives from Latin America, the
Caribbean, the United States and Europe came together to share experiences and innovative methods concerning the incorporation of technological tools in the areas of education and training.
VEC works to facilitate access to knowledge, elevate labor efficiency, and ultimately contribute to advancing national economic growth and competitiveness.
