GMAI Offers 2008 Summer Course on Audiovisual Production in Collaboration with NYU Opportunity Programs and One Race Films

The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will offer for the third time, in collaboration with New York University’s Opportunity Program and One Race Films, the summer course, “Introduction to Audiovisual Production: Film and Television.” Classes will be held June 2-27, 2008 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at

The objective of the course is to equip Dominican students with the skills necessary to work in the film and television industry.
Each student will have the chance to learn about the responsibilities associated with each component of the production process, and will then be able to apply their acquired knowledge. Throughout the
course, students will also be provided with the opportunity to fine-tune their oral communication skills, in turn, furthering their capacity to effectively convey their creative visions to their colleagues.

The first week of the course, students will develop a 30 second commercial or public service announcement, and will then learn how to edit it using Final Cut Pro. The second week of the course, students will learn about
the production of live television programming at the Telecentro Studio. The third week of the course, students will utilize the software, Final Draft, to produce a 3 page script. During the final week of the course, four 10-15 minute films will be chosen to be developed. All projects will be directed, realized and edited by the students.
