150 Organizations Will Attend InteRDom Annual Review

The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will hold its third Annual Review, March 26, 2008. Around 150 national and international institutions based in the Dominican Republic will participate in this event.

 

The primary objective of this activity is to build bridges between corporations,
universities and students, in an effort to raise awareness amongst society of the important role internships play in the academic development of young people.

 

“Its part of the corporate sector’s responsibility to serve as a fundamental leader in education, never replacing the university, nor assuming its role, but rather understanding the social and economic benefit of internships,” explained InteRDom
Coordinator, Alicia Alonzo.

 

“Internships are instruments of technological innovation, attracting qualified human resources for businesses, representing a distinct contribution in the formative process of the next generations,” Alonzo contended.

 

InteRDom’s Annual Review, which takes place annually at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, is an
event that promotes debate concerning trends in management, capacity building and development in the area of human resources.

 

This conference will rely on support from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), Associación de Administradores de Gestión Humana (ADOARH – Association of Human Resource Administrators), the Dominican Ministry of Labor, and Ponificia Universidad Católica Madre y
Maestra (PUCMM).

 

In addition to participation by national specialists, the 2008 edition will feature the participation of international experts: Dr. Lisa Stephenson, Director of Graduate Student Career Development at the Elliot School of International Affairs, George Washington University, and Professor Jorge Chávez
of the Instituto de Formación y Perfeccionamiento del Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENATI – The National Learning Services’ Institute for Development and Improvement) in Peru.

 

Speakers will discuss universities’ relationships with the businesses and organizations with which they share common activities and resources. Furthermore, they will offer general guidelines for the implementation
and improvement of internships with medium and large corporations, based on the experiences of institutions in the United States and South America.

 

During the event, participating businesses and organizations will have the opportunity to affiliate themselves with the InteRDom program (Internships in the Dominican Republic), and involve local and international interns in their projects.

 

InteRDom is the leading internship and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study, while taking courses and seminars at local universities.

 

InteRDom students receive certificates and evaluations of their performances from their supervisors. Through
InteRDom’s agreement with international universities, students can transfer acquired credits to their educational institutions.
