GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute Will Offer 3 Scholarships to Study Film in Cuba

GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), in collaboration with the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV – International School for Television and Film) in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, will award three scholarships to Dominican students between the ages of 22 and 28, to take courses at EICTV for a period of three years
(2008-2011), in the areas of Direction, Production, Scriptwriting, Documentary Film, Photography, Sound and Editing.

A National Evaluation Committee comprised of Dominican filmmakers, sociologists, film critics and creators of art and culture will select scholarship recipients based on their artistic ability and creative potential, in addition to previous work experience. The last day to apply for scholarships is March 31,

Recipients will be chosen Friday, April 25, 2008. The scholarships cover registration and course fees.
Awarding scholarships forms part of the agreement signed by EICTV and GFDD and FUNGLODE in December 2006, establishing the three institutions’ shared commitment to realizing collaborative
training and capacity building programs. As a result of the agreement, GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute has been offering classes and workshops on film and television production, in association with EICTV, since February, 2006.

Thus far, twelve Dominicans have conducted studies at the Cuban school.

EICTV is a creation of Fundación del
Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (Foundation for New Latin American Film), based in Havana, Cuba. The school was inaugurated in December, 1986, by the Latin American Film Makers Committee, which has been headed by acclaimed Columbian writer, Gabriel García Marquéz, since its inception.
