InteRDom Summer Program 2016 Kicks Off in Santo Domingo

The 2016 InteRDom Summer Program officially began on June 9th, 2016 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and welcomed a diverse group of students. Scholars in the program come from the United States, Bolivia and Namibia, significantly expanding our reach to international students.

The students accepted into the program represent a wide variety of interest areas, and will experience an action-packed summer of internships, activities, and
get-togethers.

Students will have to opportunity to go on tours in the Colonial Zone on Trikke scooters; a Jazz Night at Casa de Teatro; a trip to Bahía de las Águilas in Pedernales, one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole country; and many other cultural activitiesthat will allow them to experience real Dominican culture.

Students hail from the University of Connecticut, USA; University of Utah, USA; and University of Westminster in London,
England.

Students spend their first days preparing for their internships, participating in an orientation session and settling into their new
environment while adjusting to Dominican culture. The InteRDom team carries out several workshops, meetings and events during these days that help students get the most out of their summer experience.

Some of the organizations that will receive international interns through InteRDom this summer are Unidad de Análisis y Proyectos Especiales (UNAPE), United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic
(UNA-RD), Consorcio Ambiental Dominicano (CAD) and Observatorio Jurídico Dominicano (OJD).

The 2016 summer interns will also have the opportunity to attend weekly events at Funglode, write journal entries about their experience, and participate in the InteRDom Blog and Correspondent Program throughout the program.

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global
Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), is a premier internship, research, and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study, and earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
