April 19, 2016
The latest work of the Dominican writer Jimmy Sierra, Idolatría, will be presented next Tuesday April 26 in New York, in the prestigious Union League Club. The writer will attend the event, sponsored by Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), accompanied by the President of both foundations and former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández.
The
book, entitled IDOLATRÍA o de cómo y por qué las 13 maldiciones de Papá Liborio transformaron a Gatagás el divino, también llamado el Octavo Sabio, en el quinto evangelista y el filósofo montarás, en tributo al más grande: Dante Alighieri y a otros autores predilectos, en los mejores días de mi infancia, has in the massacre at Palma Sola of December 28, 1962, its starting point. Those events are reconstructed from a totally different perspective, in the Haitian mythical
town of "Las Tres Cruces" or "Laguna Cristal.”
The work is, as explained by its author, a tribute to Dante Alighieri, therefore it is structured with the same allegorical-philosophical criteria of the novel source of inspiration. "This means that it comes with more than 200 footnotes, explaining situations and characters."
Jimmy Sierra pays tribute to many of his favorite writers, some of whose
works are recreated in the 300 pages novel. "The best days spent by the author during his infancy are reflected in the anecdotes that reminisce the environment, games, music, theaters, el maroteo (meaning climbing on trees for fruits), the beaches, while giving a tender look at Ciudad Trujillo in the 50s", said the book´s editors.
