GFDD Presents 7 Grams at the 2016 Princeton Environmental Film Festival

GFDD and DREFF were present on the final day of the Princeton Environmental Film Festival to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the festival and introduce a screening of 7 Grams, the winning film of the DREFF’s 2015 Globo Verde Dominicano Award.

Following the screening of the short film, the director of the Princeton Environmental Film Festival, Susan Conlon,
invited Marc Jourdan, GFDD’s UN Programs & Outreach Manager, to take the floor for an engaged Q&A discussion with the audience. Fielding questions from school children and general members of the public, Jourdan praised the young directors of the film for their outstanding work. He highlighted to the audience “the importance of environmental documentary films for the purposes of educating the public about environmental protection”. Jordan
stressed the need to screen these Dominican films to as diverse an audience as possible to ensure that environmental protection values are transferred from generation to generation, and that the extensive biodiversity of the Dominican Republic can continue to flourish.

7 Grams (winner of the Premio Globo Verde Dominicano 2015)
This film, directed by Jonatán Vila Gómez & Hadzael Gómez, is the winner of the 2015 edition of DREFF’s Globo Verde Dominicano Award (part of the DREFF programs) and is based on a true story.

The story takes place in a small rural community in the Dominican Republic, and recounts the life of a Hispaniolan Emerald
(one of the smallest birds in the world, endemic species) who decides to build her nest and lay her eggs in a support pillar of a school building under construction. After two weeks, her little chicks hatch. Along with their mother, the chicks begin their daily routine. Meanwhile, the construction workers, in order to finish their job, must decide whether to leave the birds’ nest where it is, or remove it.

About the Princeton Environmental Film Festival
The Princeton Environmental Film Festival is sponsored by the Princeton Public Library (PEFF) and is held annually at 65 Witherspoon Street in downtown Princeton, New Jersey. Founded in 2006, the PEFF’s mission is to share exceptional documentary films and engage the community in exploring environmental sustainability from a wide range of angles and perspectives.
