ASOVEUSA Awards GFDD/Funglode for Their Support of La Vega Residents in the Diaspora

The Asociación de Veganos en los Estados Unidos (ASOVEUSA – Association of La Vega Residents in the US) celebrated its 5th anniversary with a gala dinner in which they recognized various Dominican individuals and institutions that stand out for their support of citizens of La Vega who live abroad. Among those recognized was the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y
Desarrollo (Funglode).

The event was held on November 6th at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in New York. The festive event included awarding plaques to the following people:

  • The Mayor of La Vega, Alexis F. Pérez
  • Ángel Mota Ramírez, La Vega businessman
  • Alaver, an institution of La Vega
  • Tomás E. Gómez, La Vega
    businessman
  • Los Broncos, La Vega Carnival group
  • Germán Batista, commentator

Yamile Eusebio, Director of the GFDD office in New York, and Kenia Hernández, Administrator of the GFDD New York office, accepted GFDD’s recognition from Juan Pineda, president of ASOVEUSA, who highlighted the Foundations’ support of ASOFUSA, provided in a “constant and selfless way since its
creation.”

“GFDD/Funglode are important allies of ASOVEUSA. Thanks to them, we are able to hold this very important event for the La Vegan community in New York,” stressed Mr. Pineda.
