Screening of “Planet Ocean” Closes Week of Environmental Awareness at Unibe

June 8, 2015

Thanks to the agreement between the Dominican Universities Environmental Network (RAUDO by its acronym in Spanish) and GFDD’s Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), the 2015 Environment Week hosted several screenings of environmental films, in addition to exhibitions, lectures, and workshops on creative recycling.

The screening of the documentary "Planet
Ocean", from the prestigious French Director Yann Arthus-Bertrand, closed 2015 Environment Week, organized by Unibe, last Saturday. Thanks to the agreement between RAUDO and DREFF, Environment Week hosted several lectures and screenings of environmental films, in addition to exhibitions and workshops on creative recycling.

The content focused on climate change, recycling, and the limits to which we are pushing planet Earth, by emphasizing management and sustainable socioeconomic development.

Students, mostly in the fields of medicine, marketing, and management, said the event was a success and that they learned much about current environmental issues. "As organizers we have
a total satisfaction and appreciation for the support of both the students who attended as well as the teachers participating, as part of the agreement between UNIBE/RAUDO and DREFF", said Shamir Omar Reynoso, GFDD’s Coordinator of Environmental Programs in Santo Domingo.

DREFF will continue working this year with higher learning in order to raise awareness and deepen understanding for
younger audiences about environmental matters.

The Year-Round Environmental Film Screenings program provides opportunities through the year for schools and socio-cultural entities to enjoy screenings of environmental issues that have been shown in previous installments of DREFF.
