GFDD Attended the World Bank Youth Summit 2014

Representatives of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) participated in the World Bank Group Youth Summit 2014, held in Washington, D.C. October 7, 2014. Under the general theme “The need for open and responsive governments” this Youth Summit gathered approximately 250 participants from civil society organizations, government officials, development professionals, journalists and students from all over the world.

Topics
such as the promotion of inclusive policies, transparency, accountability and collaboration were some of the key subjects discussed at several plenary sessions, panels and workshops held at the International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s main building in coordination with the United Nations Secretary General’s Envoy for Youth and the World Bank Group Governance Practice team.

Some of the speakers on this Summit included H.E. Erion Veliaj, Minister for Social Welfare and Youth of Albania; Ahmad Alhendawi, U.N. Envoy for Youth; Nigel Chapman, President and CEO of Plan International; Edith Jibunoh, Civil Society Advisor for the World Bank Group; and Frank Vogl, Co-Founder
of Transparency International.

World Bank Group Advisors and Program Directors or Managers moderated the panels and workshops, including Mario Marcel, from the Governance sector and Roby Senderowitsch, from the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA), among others.

Participants actively engaged in conversations and discussions analyzing the relevant role of young people on development policies around the world and proposing innovative
mechanisms and instruments in which this can be fostered such as social media platforms and the encouragement of entrepreneurship to solve social problems.

Attending this event is part of GFDD’s institutional mission of fostering progress, collaboration and exchange for the development of the Dominican Republic and the Western Hemisphere.
