GFDD to Participate in the Dominican Book Fair in New York

The 8th Dominican Book Fair in New York will take place on September 26-28, 2014 at the Gregorio Luperón High School (501 West 165th Street, New York, NY. 10032).

The Fair is an important event organized by the Dominican Republic Cultural Commission in the United States, part of the country’s Ministry of Culture.

This year the Fair is dedicated to Rei Berroa, a renowned Dominican writer and professor living in the United States who has
published more than 40 works. In GFDD’s DominicanaOnline portal there is more information about Rai Berroa and his contribution to the writing and cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic.

GFDD will actively partici pate in this Fair with several activities including launching publications, screenings of Dominican short films, recycled art workshops and a photography exposition:

• GFDD short films screening: “Three Histories, One Country: culture, art and environmental consciousness in the Dominican Republic”. Saturday, September 27th, 2014, 12:30pm. Salón Taller de Artesanía Normandía Maldonado.
• Panel

• Keynote Address on the Juan Bosch Library in Dominican Republic: “A Library ALIVE where books are your best friend” by Aida Montero, Juan Bosch Library Director. Sunday, September 28th, 2014. 10:00am. Pabellón de

• Global Talk on “Sonia Silvestre: 40 years singing for a better world” by poet and writer Maribel Contreras. Sunday, September 28th, 2014. 3:00pm. Pabellón de Locución Negro Santos.
• Talk on “The origin and evolution of intellectual property in the Dominican Republic” by Víctor Eddy Mateo Vázquez. Sunday, September 28th, 2014. 3:00pm. Salón de Conferencias Luis Días.
• ReCrearte Worhshop on Creative Recycling,

• During all the Dominican Book Fair in New York participants will be able to enjoy a photographic showcase of Dominican Republic’s natural biodiversity and beauty from
  GFDD’s book “Dominican Republic: New Perspectives”.
