Bilateral Business Council to be Launched between the Dominican Republic and India

Former president of the Dominican Republic and President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development Foundation, Leonel Fernández convened a meeting  at GFDD’s New York office with representatives of some 14 Indian companies, based in the United States, to create a Bilateral Business Council  underpinning firm corporate business exchanges between the Dominican Republic and India.

Central to the meeting was GFDD
Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic, and prominent business executives from the Dominican Republic.  "This initiative will serve to attract Indian entrepreneurs to the Dominican Republic, knowing the regulatory framework of the country, the tax structure, the strategic location and the advantage of investing in the Dominican Republic, especially in the area of ​​manufacturing and services ",  said
Fernández.

The India-DR Business Council will be officially launched between September and October this year, and will be headquartered in New York, with regional sub ​​- offices in both India and
the Dominican Republic. Fernández explained that this coming  August, a group of Indian businessmen will visit the Dominican Republic to lay the groundwork for the initiative and to make it a reality.

Eddy Martinez coordinator of FUNGLODE’s DominicanTech initiative recently launched by President Fernandez in Miami, Florida, said that the idea is that the Dominican Republic will become a platform for the production and distribution of goods and services
in various areas . He cited:  pharmaceuticals, health equipment, energy production and power plants,  electrical manufacturing,  and information technologies. Martínez suggested that the Dominican Republic is a central meeting point between Asia, Latin America and Caribbean. Similarly , he said the city of New York lends itself well to the project, because of the success of both the Dominican and Indian Diasporas here.

The Indian businessmen who
participated in the meeting with President Fernández were Sridhar Chityala of Finance and Technology ; Sreedhar Menon, BPO and IT ; Vik Atal, of Finance and BPO ; Nirmal Mattoo, Healthcare Services; Rakesh Kaul, Consumer Products, and Gaurav and Aditi Bazaz, Power generation and Energy; Bharat Wakhlu, TATA ; Raman Kapur Pharmaceuticals; Ken Nulman of Lighting ; Jay Talluri , Software / IT ; Raj Wanchoo, Media & Entertainment; Aditi Saraf , BOOM Systems Private Ltd and Shreyas Slater

The Dominican businessmen at the meeting were: Félix García, Manuel Estrella, Carlos Manuel Alvarez & Federico Alvarez, Guillermo Sención, Juan Rodriguez, Axel Haché, and Rodolfo Fuertes.
