GFDD President Fernández to Moderate High Level UN Panel Examining ‘North-South, South-South, Triangular Cooperation’, and ICTs

The former Head of State and President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Leonel Fernández will moderate a High Level panel discussion at United Nations Headquarters in New York entitled, "Contributions of North-South, South-South, Triangular Cooperation, and Information and Communication Technologies for the Implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda". The event, which will
examine how all these elements can best coordinated to improve efficiency and efficacy.

In the opening session of the event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 at 9:45 am, remarks will be offered by the following UN officials and dignitaries: John W. Ashe, President of the General Assembly; Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary General of the UN; Abha Joshi-Ghane, Executive of the World Bank Institute; Mark Suzman, Executive of the Melinda Gates Foundation; and, Silvia Ribeiro,
Director of the ETC Group for Latin America. After the opening, the keynote address will be given by Mrs. Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program.

The following panelists will participate in this discussion: Louse Mushikiwabo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda; Hamadoun Toure, Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU); Suvi Lindén, former Minister of Communications of Finland and member of the
Broadband Commission for Digital Development (ITU-UNESCO); and, David Steven, Associate Director of the Center for International Cooperation at New York University.

As part of his US agenda for this week, former President Fernández also has some planned meetings at the University of New York, as well as a visit to academic institutions in the State of New Jersey.
