Independence Day Message
February 27, 2014
On Thursday February 27th, Dominicans here and all over the world will be celebrating the 170th Anniversary of Dominican Republic’s Independence.
On behalf of GFDD and FUNGLODE, we congratulate Dominican citizens everywhere on this most auspicious of occasions and wish our audiences health, prosperity and happiness.
Dominicans have a natural disposition, held with a conviction and determination that anything can be
achieved, if so minded. A prime example is from Founding Father Juan Pablo Duarte, who never let the circumstances and threats defeat him and who fought for his people to be free and independent.
The good will and tenacity of Dominicans is well known. After many years of being a Spanish colony, the country then gained independence from Haitians, whilst still maintaining a solidarity and deeply entrenched historical-based ties.
Nowadays, Dominicans thrive in many communities across the globe, integrating and, yet bringing their own cultural traditions, and thus enriching those of the host country.
Commemorating this special day GFDD, as a non-profit organization committed to the social and economic development of the DR, supports many educational, environmental and community activities and calls on the Dominican Diaspora residing in the US and elsewhere, to participate
in honor of Dominican heritage.
GFDD””s aim is to encourage to celebrate on February 27th, and commemorate the one hundred and seventieth year of National Independence and dedicate ourselves to working together for the advancement of the country.
