GFDD/FUNGLODE and Dominican Mission to the UN to partner with Propagas Foundation on Environmental Education Presentation at UNHQ

GFDD and FUNGLODE are delighted to announce that a presentation and panel discussion on Environmental Education entitled Pedagogy of the Earth will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York on Thursday February 6, 2014 from 1.15 to 2.45PM.

Pedagogy of the Earth is a research project which seeks to understand how information, knowledge and cultural values about society and the environment is taught and transmitted. It explores the relationship between society and nature in primary school natural science textbooks within the education sector in the Dominican Republic. The motivation behind promoting environmental education for a sustainable and equitable society, stems from the growing and evident deterioration of our natural surroundings , for which mankind has been the dominant instigator over the last 60 years  (a fact which is strongly supported by the recent release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 5th assessment report).

The event is organized by Propagas Foundation in partnership with GFDD, FUNGLODE and the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations. It will take place within the framework of the Eighth Meeting of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which will run at UN Headquarters from February 3rd to 7th 2014.

Invited Guests and Participants will include Dr. Leonel Fernandez, former President of the Dominican Republic, Ms. Vibeke Jensen, Director of UNESCO New York Office, Mr. Elliott Harris, Director of UNEP New York Office, Mr. Anthony Lake, Executive Director of UNICEF, and Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

The Propagas Foundation was founded in 2007 with the aim of educating the public, and in particular children and young people, through educational tools that serve both educators and parents in an effort to ensure the conservation of nature.
