InteRDom Announces First Activity of New Reverse Exchange Initiative: The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program

In collaboration with Yale University and its Dominican Student Association, QuisqueYalies, InteRDom Internships in the Dominican Republic is proud to announce its latest initiative aimed at promoting cross-cultural communication and international exchange: the Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program.

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program is a joint effort between
InteRDom, Yale University and the Ministry of Higher Education in Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic. The initiative is the first of its kind, putting a new twist on traditional InteRDom programs by bringing Dominican students to the United States rather than the reverse. In the program, Dominican university students studying diverse topics at institutions of higher education in the Dominican Republic will travel to Yale University, where they will experience the daily life of
a Yale student in their study area.

For one week from November 9th through the 16th, Dominican participants will stay in dormitories with their Yale student hosts, members of the Quisqueyalies with whom they will be paired based on academic and extracurricular interests. By living with fellow undergraduates, participants will fully experience the life of a student at Yale. During the week, participants will attend University classes, club meetings and sporting events with
their hosts. Other academic events, including panels and guest lectures, will also be organized by the host group at Yale in order to inspire cross-cultural debate and conversation.

This unique program aims to connect Dominican students with the Diaspora and generate dialogue about the similarities and differences in the experiences of the two groups, in this way inspiring cross-cultural collaboration and intellectual exchange.  The program will be repeated annually
with the potential to be replicated at other higher learning institutions in the United States.

Dominican college students interested in applying may email info@interdominternships.org to see if they qualify. Applications will be accepted until October 16, 2013 and must include the application form, unofficial transcript, resume, and copy of passport.

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
