GFDD and FUNGLODE to Give an Oral Statement at the ECOSOC High Level Segment in Geneva

From July 1-4, 2013 in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (FUNGLODE) will give an oral statement at the Annual Ministerial Review in the framework of the 2013 ECOSOC High Level Segment. The Annual Ministerial Review’s theme this year will be “Science, technology and innovation, and the potential of culture, for
promoting sustainable development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

”High level officials from Ministers of Science, Technology, Innovation, Health, Culture, Development Cooperation, Foreign Affairs, Executive Heads of UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes, UN Conference on Trade and Development, UNESCO, UN Industrial Development Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization and UN Regional Commissions, representatives of civil society,
private sector and academia will come together to discuss how best to manage existing technology and non-technological innovation in order to address the special needs of different countries, especially the least developed ones.

GFDD and FUNGLODE will take this unique opportunity to be heard at ECOSOC deliberations and to contribute to issues of critical concern on the global development agenda. At the High Level Segment, presenting their statement, the Foundations will
address the issue of utilizing scientific and technological innovation, which is a crucial cross-cutting theme for the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals, in the initiative to link public and private sectors to civil society. “Binding different sectors that govern people’s lives through scientific and technological advancement, will strengthen our actions and allow the expected results to be achieved in less time and with a greater success,”
will proclaim in its intervention Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and  Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo.

About ECOSOC High Level Segment
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) constitutes one of the principal organs of the United Nations. It is responsible for coordinating the economic, social and related work of 14 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions and
five regional commissions. With its 54 members, ECOSOC holds a four-day annual High Level Segment to assess progress in achieving internationally-agreed development goals, in particular the Millennium Development Goals. This year the High Level Segment will be held at the United Nations Office in Geneva from 1 to 4 July 2013 focusing on a broad range of issues at the heart of the UN development agenda.
