Publication on Empowerment of Women in Democracies of Developing Countries to be Discussed at FUNGLODE
April 3, 2013
On April 3, FUNGLODE auditorium will be the venue for a discussion about the GFDD and FUNGLODE publication “Empowerment of Women in Democracies of Developing Countries: The Experience of the Dominican Republic”.
The presentation will be made by Ms. Rosa Rita Alvarez who currently heads the micro credit section of Banco Reserves, and who also served as the former
Executive Director of Mujeres en Desarrollo (MUDE) (Women in Development in English).
The compelling discourse provides an overview of social, economic, cultural and political inequalities currently faced by women in the Dominican Republic and aims to illustrate how the development potential of nations, communities and families is contingent upon the ability of women to fully exercise their equal rights alongside men.
The publication contributes to GFDD
and FUNGLODE’s long-term commitment to the advancement of women, and is the outcome of a discussion forum presented at the UN during the Commission on Women, in March 2012, which sought to assess gains and ongoing struggles related to the achievement of gender equality in all spheres.
The publication, which is part of the RESEARCH AND IDEAS series on gender, will serve as a tool to stimulate dialogue around issues pertaining to gender
equality and women’s empowerment as well as call attention to the need for continued progress in the areas of health and security, and economic development.
