DR Environmental Film Festival and Globo Verde Dominicano Award Bring Dominican Filmmaker to the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital

Armando Larrauri, winner of the first Globo Verde Dominicano environmental short film competition, was hosted by GFDD and FUNGLODE during the DC Environmental Film Festival which took place in the Washington, DC metropolitan area from March 12-24.  Mr. Larrauri””s visit to the nations capital, and participation in the Film Festival, was part of the prize package he won having placed first in the Globo Verde Dominicano competition.

While in DC, Armando was able to interact and network with other filmmakers, be part of discussions and meetings and develop an overall appreciation for the valuable contributions of the Environmental Film Festival itself.  In addition, GFDD was able to facilitate access to the Spanish-speaking media for interviews with the young director at local stations Univision and Telemundo.

During his time in Washington, Armando was also an honored guest at the
Dominican Republic Embassy where he had the opportunity to meet with Economic and Trade Counselor, Felipe Herrera, Minister Counselor for Cultural Affairs, Ligia Reid, and Permanent Representation to the OAS Counselor, Francisco Cruz.

The promotion and motivation of young Dominican filmmakers in documentary production is an integral part of the mission of DREFF, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival. Exposing these young filmmakers to other documentary
producers and directors from around the world presents an invaluable opportunity to develop professional networks, share new trends and develop deeper understandings of the issues facing filmmakers today.

Globo Verde Dominicano and the DR Environmental Film Festival actively and continually seek out new Dominican talent and new Dominican film productions, to present to the rest of the world. In particular, Globo Verde Dominicano encourages and motivates Dominican
youth to make audiovisual productions which generate awareness of the importance of the environment and sustainable development; promote discussion on the state of the Dominican environment, sustainable development and the implications for the future; and to generate proposals for the improvement of the problems facing the Dominican Republic in the areas of environment and sustainable development through the production of short films and public service announcements.
