March 21, 2013On March 21-25, 2013, GFDD and FUNGLODE in partnership with the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR), a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to support the work of the United Nations, will be welcoming over 400 Dominican students to New York City. They will meet to participate in the ninth edition of the Dominican Republic Model United Nations (NYDRMUN) which will take place at the Convention Center of Hilton Hotel. Young people will
come to discuss major challenges that the international community is facing today and, in the course of discussions, they will seek to find possible solutions to the urgent issues.
During the 5 day event, Dominican and students of other nationalities will have a wonderful opportunity to deepen their knowledge on global issues and strengthen their negotiation skills by suggesting resolutions and proposals to the most pressing problems of today, in accordance with the
UN Agenda and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The conference, in addition to the umbrella themes, will examine and debate other important issues, such as Water Cooperation (March 22 is proclaimed the International Day of Water), Peace and Security in Africa, the situations in Haiti and Palestine, and the economic embargo of Cuba.
Participating in NYDRMUN will not only spur the students to broaden their understanding of the work performed by the United Nations but
also they will receive an invaluable opportunity to improve their professional skills through debates on global issues within the context of the UN agenda.
