FUNGLODE and GFDD Present Distinguished Journalist, Elina Cruz, at the 10th Annual International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers

On March 15-17, GFDD and FUNGLODE, in partnership with the Dominican Women’s Development Center, the Hostos Community College, the Dominican Cultural Commissioner and the Dominican Consulate in New York City, will be honored to host the 10th Annual International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers.

The 10th International
Book and Culture Fair of Dominican Women Writers is one of the most important events for literary and cultural work of Dominican writers who live in New York City. The Fair will be held under the slogan "Writing makes our dream a reality" and it will be dedicated to four extraordinary women from the Dominican community: Yrene Santos, Dr. Marybelle Ferreira de Oleo, Dr. Marily Maria D. Galvan and Jacqueline Guilamo.

In addition, another
distinguished woman will honor the event with her presence – Elina María Cruz. She will be participating at two different literature/journalistic writing events on Sunday 17 March and also will be a VIP guest at the Exclusive Opening Reception. Elina María Cruz has an accomplished and remarkable career in the field of communications and journalism, and currently holds a position of Director of Communications at FUNGLODE, Director of Center for Communications Research
at FUNGLODE and Director of Communications at the Dominican Republic’s Global Film Festival.

The opening ceremony of the Fair will be held in the theater of the Isabella Home Center at 6:00pm on Friday 15 March, 2013 which is located at 515 Audubon Ave, New York, NY 10040. The Fair will take place at the Isabella Home Center on Saturday, from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The Exclusive Opening of the "Museo Incunable de Voces Femeninas," by Sarah
Aponte and Franklin Gutiérrez, will be held at the Isabella Home Center, on Saturday 16 March at 6:00pm. On Sunday 17 March, the Fair will take place at the Commissioner of Culture from 10:00am to 6:00 pm at 541 West 145th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway.

About the Annual International Book Fair:

The Annual International Book and Culture Fair is referred to as one of the
most important Spanish Book Fairs held in New York City. The Fair seeks to serve as a channel to promote Latin American and Caribbean authors and publishers. The objective of the International Book Fair is to celebrate Dominican culture and to promote literacy and education amongst children encouraging them to start reading books at an early age. Additionally, the event will feature a number of cultural events for children and families, including theatrical productions, arts and crafts,
storytelling, readings and music performances.

The Dominican Women’s Development Center is a non-profit organization located in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Founded in 1988, the Center works to help women and their families face a variety of modern life’s challenges, including sexism and discrimination,
high housing costs, low-class schools, limited access to health care services, reproductive rights and high teenage pregnancy.
