Dominican Model of the Inter-American System Officially Inaugurated
February 21, 2013On Wednesday, February 21, the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNADR), in association with Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), inaugurated the third annual Dominican Model of the Inter-American System (MODOSI 2013).
Presiding over the event, which took place at Banco Central, was Ambassador Albert R.Ramdin, who has been OAS Assistant Secretary General since 2005. Ambassador Ramdin has been a proponent of greater unity in the Americas affirmed that “the only way we can move forward is if we dedicate ourselves individually and collectively to cooperate in advancing a positive common agenda that will foster meaningful
progress.” He noted that the Model Program of the OAS aims to promote democratic values and respect for human rights among the youth of the Hemisphere.

Also present at the event were Mrs. Pilar Sandoval, Executive Director of UNADR , Ms. Yamile Eusebio, Director of the New York office of the GFDD, OAS reps in the Dominican Republic, ministers, local authorities, representatives from the diplomatic corps, and
international organizations.
The Dominican Model of the Inter-American System (MODOSI for its Spanish Acronym), which is a conference for college and high school students of the Dominican Republic, will take place from Friday Feb 22 – 24 at the premises of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE), located on Calle Capitán Eugenio de Marchena No. 26, Sector La Esperilla, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic . Receiving expert advice from diplomats and
academics, the more than 350 students will participate in a simulation of the Summit of the Americas, the General Assembly and Permanent Council of the OAS, and the IDB Board of Governors in order to address important topics of the regional agenda.
